the black keys : kansas city, MO

i’m honored to once again be a part of the black keys tour poster series. this print is for their december 21 stop in kansas city, MO.

i used the pony express (founded in close proximity to kansas city) as a metaphor for the urgency and dynamism that the band displays while playing live.

all copies will go on sale in my shop on tuesday, january 6, 2015.

dark hall mansion : the twilight zone : living doll

with the annual year-end marathon fast approaching, now is a great time to show off “living doll”, the next print in my dark hall mansion / twilight zone series.

this is one of the creepiest-ass episodes of the entire series and seems to stick with people long after they’ve finished watching it. i wanted to juxtapose that indelible impression with the retro toy packaging of the ’50s/’60s to create something that is both visually engaging and pure evil. so, enjoy.

the prints are available through dark hall mansion as a 10-poster subscription that will continue through 2015.

dark hall mansion : the year without a santa claus

here’s my latest for dark hall mansion celebrating the 1974 animated classic, “the year without a santa claus”.

now that halloween is in the rear view mirror, it’s time to put the rankin/bass christmas specials on a continuous loop for the next 2 months. one of my favorites of that group is “the year without a santa claus”, highlighted is the fantastically realized miser brothers having a weather-related sing off, each extolling their own micro climate. great stuff.

these prints will release from dark hall mansion on thursday, november 13 sometime between 9:30am – 12pm PST.

galerie f : the shining

produced through galerie f in association with chicago’s historic logan theater, here’s my new print for “the shining”.

i’ve done a few shining-inspired pieces in the past and my intent with this one was to avoid all of the “usual suspects”, i.e. maze, twins, ax, typewriter, etc.

this time, i opted to show a quiet exterior shot of the overlook hotel with an ominous snow just starting to fall. as your eye draws down from the main image to the type, rows of bodies buried below the surface of the mountain become visible, hinting at the terror housed in the hotel. i rendered everything in geometric angles, reminiscent of the indian motifs that are scattered throughout the hotel.

the poster will be released through the galerie f website at a random time on monday, october 27.

mondo : gotham by gaslight

here’s a look at my “gotham by gaslight” print for mondo‘s “batman 75” gallery event.

i’ve long been a fan of DC’s “elseworlds” stories wherein classic characters and situations are slightly tweaked and twisted outside of continuity to produce interesting results. In the case of “gotham by gaslight” (the progenitor of the elseworlds concept), the question “what if batman existed in 1889?” is answered. A brilliantly reserved tale of a victorian gotham comes to life through the writing of brian augustyn and the graphic artwork of one of my favorite illustrators, mike mignola. when asked to be a part mondo’s batman gallery show, i couldn’t pass up the chance to pay homage to one of my all-time favorite dark knight stories.
