dark hall mansion : war of the worlds

here’s my latest for dark hall mansion, the 1953 classic, “war of the worlds”.

i remember watching this as a kid and the aliens freaking me the hell out. upon revisit, they don’t quite inspire the same dread in me, but the film itself still stands as one of the absolute best examples of 1950′s sci-fi, capturing the paranoia of that era. the colors in the film are absolutely gorgeous, something i strived to capture in both versions of the image.

copies of this print will first be offered to folks who choose to buy the subscription of my new twilight zone series. remaining copies will be offered via drop through dark hall mansion at a later date.

mondo : army of darkness

here’s my latest poster for mondo, the sam raimi classic “army of darkness”.

the challenge on this assignment was choosing which moments from the film to represent. ther are so many iconic images, creatures and quotes that litter this film. really fun assignment.

dark hall mansion : the twilight zone : eye of the beholder

i’m excited to finally be able to show off the first print in the new twilight zone series that i’m creating for dark hall mansion.

i love the twilight zone and bi-annually binge on episodes during the new years and fourth of july marathons. when presented with the opportunity to illustrate classic episodes, i rattled off a list of “musts”, but i knew i had to tackle “eye of the beholder” first. it’s hand-down my dad’s favorite episode and one that made a lifelong impression on him when he first saw it. this one’s for you, dad.

the series of ten prints will be sold as a subscription with sales opening up on tuesday, august 19. full details here.

info•rama : octopus

i’m really excited to start showing work from info•rama, my upcoming two-man exhibit at phone booth gallery with the illustrious kevin tong.

kevin, pbg owner garry booth and i began batting concepts around for a show almost two years ago. we were all inspired when the idea of informational graphics surfaced. the idea of presenting a wealth of information in a clean, organized manner while retaining a level of visual excitement is a challenge that speaks to the designer in me. on top of that, the fact that we could pull interesting subjects out of thin air was completely liberating.

we are all super proud of the results and can’t wait to reveal more images leading up to the opening on august 23. kevin and i will be in attendance and we look forward to seeing you folks there.

the colonial theatre : 1961

held at the colonial theatre (where scenes from the 1958 classic “the blob” were filmed) phoenixville, PA’s blobfest is a weekend-long celebration of monster and cult cinema. this year’s theme was “clash of the kaiju” and featured double bill showings of the blob with “mothra”, “king kong vs. godzilla”, and “the giant spider”.

the remainder of my new kaiju-centric “1961” screenprints (as well as the special online-only variant edition) will go on sale tuesday, july 15 at a random time in the strongstuff shop.

mondo : robocop

mondo offered me the opportunity to create a poster for one of my all-time favorite movies, robocop.

like so many other folks of my generation, the film’s mix of ultra-violence and biting satire made an indelible impression on my young self and the flawless designs of robocop and ed-209 inspire my imagination even to this day.

“your move, creep.”
