here’s myvariant edition voltron poster that acidfree gallery will be releasing at next week’s wizard world philadelphia.

this colorway was initially intended to be the regular edition, but we decided to go with the more primary, on-model color scheme for the regular and use the vintage look for the variant.

acidfree gallery provided me the opportunity to work on yet another staple of my childhood viewing, the mighty voltron.

revisiting classic animation/movies in the name of research for a project is one of the best parts of my job, and this assignment was no different. it was great to spend some time with keith, lance, hunk, pidge and princess allura after a too-long hiatus.

this poster (along with a variant that will be previewed next week) will be sold at acidfreegallery‘s booth (#555) at wizard world philadelphia starting thursday, may 30 and running through sunday, june 2. i’ll be at their booth signing at 1 PM on friday, may 31, so if you’re at the show, please stop by and say something clever.

the black keys have enlisted me to do another gig poster for them, this time for last night’s show in my home state of pennsylvania.

i wanted to convey the power and energy underlying the keys’ music while also paying homage to the pittsburgh tour stop. to do so, i envisioned what might be lurking just beneath the surface of the giant steel mills that pittsburgh is famous for.

in addition to the regular (green) edition that was available at the show, i created a variant edition that is available exclusively in the strongstuff shop. i’ll be releasing my copies of both versions on wednesday, may 1. full details follow.

target : afi : night at the movies

i had the privilege of working with the folks at target to produce this event poster for american film institute‘s night at the movies.

when the book has closed on my career, this will probably go down as the largest physical display of one of my posters. the design was used as part of an interior presentation case and printed as a limited edition run of 27″ x 40″ onesheets, but the primary application was a 30-foot tall, backlit grid wall inside the arclight cinema in hollywood.

when i accepted the assignment, i labeled it “intimiciting” (intimidating + exciting). as it turns out, it was every bit of both. such a fun job.

acidfree gallery and hasbro allowed me full creative full freedom on this series and the 10-year old me jumped at the chance to design posters showcasing classic G1 alt-modes.

idw : cobra files 1 : retailer incentive cover

here’s the “cobragraphic” retailer incentive cover that i designed for issue #1 of idw‘s new “cobra files” series. the issue hits stands on wednesday, april 10, 2013, with one copy of my cover shipping to comic shops for every 10 copies of the regular edition ordered.

once again, it’s a major thrill to work on one of the properties that inspired me to start drawing as a kid.

nickelodeon : robotrucks

in late 2011, the VP in charge of preschool tv at nickelodeon invited me to join the development team for a new boys’ show.

after a day-long kickoff meeting at nick headquarters in manhattan, we were rolling on development of robotrucks, a show aimed at preschool boys featuring anthropomorphized construction vehicles and trucks that protect, teach and serve the town they live in.

shown here are my design concepts for ripper, the brawny bulldozer and chrome, the heroic monster truck.

as a team, we collectively took the project up to the creation of a show bible for a pitch to network heads. unfortunately, that’s where it ended, as they chose to pursue another show idea at that time.

overall, it was an eye-opening project for me, and something refreshingly outside of my wheelhouse. it was also amazing to work with a team of animation industry veterans. i hope i get the chance to work on something like this again in the future.

thanks to acidfree gallery, i had the opportunity to dive headfirst back into the transformers universe.

i wanted these prints to stand apart from my earlier take on the generation one factions, so, taking cues from the great monaco racing posters of the 70′s, i put the alt-modes of classic autobots cars front and center.

(and keep your optic sensors peeled for a similarly-executed decepticon poster… more details soon!)

dark hall mansion : it’s the easter beagle, charlie brown

dark hall mansion has invited me to apply my vectors to charles shulz’ holiday classic, “it’s the easter beagle, charlie brown”!

confession time: i had never seen “easter beagle” until i was assigned this poster.

*ahem*

with that bit of unpleasantness out of the way, i have to say that i love this special. linus gets his long-overdue karmic payoff for his undying great-pumpkin-strength faith, the ongoing bit with peppermint patty and marcie attempting to decorate eggs is pure gold and we get a glimpse into woodstock’s swanky pad. this’ll be in heavy rotation every spring from now on.

here’s my entry for gallery 1988‘s “product placement” screenprint show.

participants were asked to create a poster/advertisement for a fictional product from television or film. i’ve always thought the caterpillar P-5000 work loader from “aliens” was the bees knees, so this was pretty much a no-brainer for me.

what a great show for gallery 1988 to break in their new location with. can’t wait to see all of the entries.
